How many years have you been with raiseRED?
1 year as Dancer, 1 year as Morale Captain, 1 year as Team Leader, 1st year on Executive Board
What are you studying at UofL?
Why do you dance?
I originally became involved in raiseRED because I was encouraged to participate by older girls in my sorority. At the time, little did I know how much of an impact it would have on me. After my first year as a dancer I immediately knew I wanted to get more involved in raiseRED and I have done just that. Then during my junior year of college, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. This was the first time my family had been directly impacted by cancer and I experienced first hand the horrible effects cancer can have on a family. From battling the cancer with my mom I now have a stronger passion for wanting to find a cure to cancer. I dance for my mom. I dance for the families impacted by cancer. One day we will dance in celebration, until then I dance for a cure.
Advice for first time dancers?
My advice for first time dancers is to stay the entire 18 hours! My first year participating in raiseRED I didn’t stay the entire time and I completely regret it. I told myself that I would come back at the end of the dance marathon, but I didn’t because I was too embarrassed that I left. There will be times that you might think you can’t stay awake any longer, but you definitely CAN DO IT!
Favorite raiseRED memory?
My favorite raiseRED memory every single year is when we reveal the total at the end of the dance marathon. After dancing for 18 hours you are physically, mentally and emotionally exhausted. Then getting to see the E-Board on stage reveal the total of money raised is the most fulfilling feeling because at the moment you know all your hard work paid off.
Favorite food, movie, artist?
My favorite food is Mexican food!
Fun fact about yourself?
I have been skydiving before and plan to go again!
